Nexter started as a small organization in California and was inspired by Christopher a college graduate with a bachelors in Political Science. As a resident in California Christopher saw how homelessness and mental health negatively impacted people from all levels of income. After witnessing these devastating impacts Christopher decided to become more active. Nexter wasn’t just a passion but a necessity. Christopher organized a team of 7 colleagues to go to specific areas in Los Angeles that lacked access to care. The team of 7 did research on what the essential needs were of people in these specific areas. What the team found was that many people did not know how easy it was to apply online for jobs or the different programs out there for mental health in the community. After several weeks of research Nexter allocated a budget and brought not only food, clothes, and hygiene products but internet access, job applications, and in person mental health professionals that talked to various people in the community! This model worked and Nexter believes this can be a model that can transform how people help those in need from across the globe!
One of the many concerns that Nexter’s team of 11 found was that people who were in need also had others to care for. What Nexter’s team of 11 found was the mistreatment of animals that also suffered from a lack of access to care. This was an unintentional finding that Nexter came across. Around 24 percent of homeless people have pets. Many of which have little to no means to care for them. Nexter prides itself on bringing awareness and care to pets across the country and the poor conditions many of them live in.
